Stake Conference in Trinidad and Tobago Invites Members to Move Forward with Faith
The Sunday session of the Trinidad Port of Spain Stake Conference brought together members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across Trinidad and Tobago for messages centered on faith, service, and covenant preparation. Speakers encouraged members to trust the Lord, remember individuals, and make space for discipleship even amid busy lives.
Stake President: President Christopher Danzell reflected on counsel shared by General Authority Seventy: Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt about moving forward with an “eye of faith.” He reminded members that faith allows us to find joy in the Lord’s work, even during difficult seasons. Trials, he explained, often become the means by which the Lord helps His children grow. “How else are we supposed to grow if not in affliction?” he asked, inviting members to trust the Lord’s plan and continue pressing forward.
Another speaker emphasized the importance of preparing to make and keep sacred covenants. Through prayer, scripture study, and consistent obedience, members can strengthen their spiritual foundation and better understand the promises they make with God.
Missionary preparation was also highlighted. Members were reminded that preparing for a mission begins long before receiving a call. By developing testimonies of the gospel and learning to share their faith now, young people can be ready to serve the Lord when the opportunity comes.

Mission President: President Van Gils spoke about the importance of the sacrament and remembering individuals. He shared an experience of a bishop who briefly left sacrament meeting to ensure that the deacons had water so they too could partake of the sacrament. The act illustrated the Savior’s pattern of remembering the one. Just as taught in the parable of the lost sheep, the Lord cares deeply about every individual and ensures no one is forgotten.
The Relief Society President: Sister Lisa Dopwell, addressed the challenge of balancing responsibilities within and outside of the Church. While life can often feel busy, she encouraged members to intentionally make room for the Lord. Referencing Matthew 6:26, she reminded the congregation that if Heavenly Father cares for the birds of the air, He will surely care for His children. She encouraged members to organize their time differently in order to include opportunities to serve others, reminding them that true service is rarely convenient.
The session concluded with a renewed invitation for members to move forward with faith, strengthen their covenants, and follow the Savior’s example of remembering individuals. Even in the midst of life’s many responsibilities, discipleship requires trusting the Lord and making time for the work that truly matters.
